When a lonely young woman and an unusual stranger meet in the small coastal town of Beaufort, North Carolina, their romantic liaison is thrown on the rocks by the simultaneous arrival of an intense hurricane and a vicious serial killer preying on the town’s women. Sarah Turlington has led a quiet and sad existence in her small hometown by the sea. After suffering a brutal attack on her first experience away from home, she has retreated to the security of the one place she feels safe. It would have been easy to just live out her days there in quiet solitude until a young artist and adventurer wandered into the small gift shop where she worked. He was the outside world and he wanted into hers. Just as she started to develop the trust needed to have any sort of involvement with him, Beaufort becomes the backdrop for a series of attacks by a brutal serial killer. At the same time, a massive hurricane threatens to remove the town from the map. Sarah’s decision to trust would force her to risk her own life and perhaps the lives of others. There is a point at which nature, love, trust and evil will all intersect.

Widow Walk Les Pendleton Books

This was a good read. I enjoyed the many characters, and had no clue as to who the killer was until the very end of the book, whereas normally I can figure that out much earlier in a story. One of the things that struck me while reading this book was the complete absence of "F-bombs." Most mysteries today are pretty much filled with a great deal of profanity. This book wasn't. It reminded me a little of the TV series, "Murder She Wrote." If you enjoyed that show, as I did, you'll enjoy this book. Also, the use of Beaufort, NC as the setting has made me want to visit that nearby town and spend some time there. I'm not a sailor (although we did own a sailboat for a while), whereas Les Pendleton is a sea captain who knows what he's talking about when he describes the scenes set at sea on a sailboat. If you would like to read a novel NOT filled with profanity, set in a charming North Carolina seacoast town, with likeable characters, enough suspense to keep the pages turning, and a satisfying ending, then I highly recommend this book.

Widow Walk Les Pendleton Books Reviews

Bought this book in Beaufort,NC. What a great story. I cried when Alan reappeared. Can't wait til I go on vacation, again to visit the Scuttlebutt and buy another book by Led Pendleton
This was a very enjoyable book! I prefer suspense novels over other genres, and this really was a page turner! A cool thing was we had just visited historic Beaufort, NC, and I could really visualize where things took place in the book. An even cooler thing was we bought the book directly from Les and his lovely wife, Susanne, after enjoying a trip to Beaufort on their Palm Coast Tours van!! Even got an autograph!! Check it out, a great book!
I really enjoyed reading this book! I saw it in a store in New Bern NC while on vacation so was excited to read something by a local author. The setting of the book was great and all the twist and turns were unexpected. I thought I had it all figured out until the author revealed! Good characters and very nice story lines. Very believable and enjoyable to read. I look forward to reading more by this author
I absolutely, Loved this book. Many twist surprise ending. I insisted my wife read it and we had fun talking about the ending.
Wow, we didn't see that coming! Nichollas Sparks eat your Heart out? Love reading Les Pendleton!

Would make a great movie!!!!
Les Pendleton did an awesome job describing subject matter, location, characters...He definitely knew his material. He was adept at pulling the reader into the story till its conclusion. I was particularly impressed that the author was pleasantly vague in describing violent/sexual situations. He left it to the reader's imagination. I enjoy a mystery/suspense more without reading the gory details.
Also, I felt like I was in the Beaufort/New Bern area again. We took his sunset cruise last May and thoroughly enjoyed Les and his lovely wife, Susanne. I am anxious to read more of his books!
Great story by a very talented author.....A must read.....for all thriller nuts
Absolutely the best book I have read in years. It is a story with such realistic human actions on land and on the sailing boats on the water. One quickly identifies with the characters in so many ways, in their actions and reactions to the events that make the local news.. Don't pass up reading this soon to be a best seller.
